| Some
notes on the influence and interrelationship between Experimental
Film & Artist’s Video
When any of my students
return from a shooting session with a video camera, they inevitably
tell me they have been out “filming”. I stopped correcting
them some time ago. These days to “video” something
invariably means to engage in “time-shifting”-re-organising
the broadcast TV schedule, whereas the activity of “recording”
is almost exclusively reserved for sound. The distinction between
video and film, something of vital importance when I was at film
school at the end of the 1970’s, seems of little significance
to the next generation of artists working with the moving image.
